Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Certificate of Deposit (CD) at On Tap Credit Union?
A CD (share certificate) is a fixed-term deposit option that pays a higher interest (APY) than a regular savings account. You deposit money for a set period, and at maturity you receive your original deposit plus dividends or you can roll it over into a new CD or savings account.
What CD terms and interest rates does On Tap currently offer?
On Tap offers multiple CD terms: 6 months to 5 years. Interest rates published are updated regularly to reflect current interest rates.
What is the minimum deposit to open a CD, and are there special CD types?
The standard minimum deposit is $500. On Tap also offers Jumbo Certificates for large deposits (minimum $100,000), and a Youth 12-Month Certificate for savers 18 or younger which requires only $25 to open.
How often is interest credited on a CD?
Dividends are compounded monthly and credited monthly based on the average daily balance.
What happens if I withdraw money before the CD term ends?
Withdrawing funds early typically results in an early-withdrawal penalty, which may reduce or forfeit interest earned. Consult a member of our team to learn more about potential penalties for your particular CD if you wish to make a withdrawal.
Can I have multiple CDs or combine a CD with other savings at On Tap?
Yes! Members can open multiple certificates and also hold other savings or share accounts at the same time, giving flexibility in how you allocate your savings.
Do I need to be a member to open a CD at On Tap?
Yes, you must be a member of On Tap Credit Union. If you are not a member, a membership account will be created for you as part of the application process.
